Meet Dr. Douglas G. Drewyer
D.D.S., M.A.In 2026, Dr. Douglas Drewyer will note his 44th Year in practice while celebrating 75 years of Drewyer Dentistry! The legacy began with Dr. Darwin Drewyer, Douglas’ Dad and Dr. Austin’s Grandfather, in downtown Silver Spring in 1951.
As Dr. Douglas eases his way into retirement with a part-time schedule, he reflects on his journey. From Springbrook High School (1974) to Madison College (1978) to the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (1982), Dr. Douglas wasn’t quite done with his academic pursuits. He achieved a Master’s Degree in Applied Healing Arts that informs to this day the offering of two courses at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry – A Mindfulness Approach to Clinical Excellence and A Mindfulness Approach to Conflict Resolution. Douglas has been a member of the UMSOD Dean’s Faculty since its inception in 2001. Additionally, he has enjoyed delivering special offerings to Doctorate Undergrads and Post-Doc Specialty Programs.
It is with great confidence and pleasure that he turned the reigns of Drewyer Dentistry over to Dr. Austin and his outstanding team. Assuredly, they will continue the Legacy Dr. Darwin initiated, the creation of a patient base where folks become aware of their dental wellness, Educated about their conditions, motivated to pursue their needs, restored with the ultimate qualities of care, and ultimately achieve the continuing care of a Preventive profile. Retirement promises yet more time with his cherished grandsons and beloved wife, Elaine, as Practitioner to Life with gratitude for the wonders each of his days continue to bring.
